Cutek and colour

  • Cutek oils are suitable for use as a clear, water repellent coating on exterior timber surfaces, however surfaces coated with clear Cutek oils will quickly silver off on exposure to sunlight to produce a natural weathered appearance while still retaining their enhanced dimensional stability characteristics.
  • IF YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR EXTERIOR EXPOSED TIMBER TO SILVER OFF, then specially formulated colourtones are available that MUST be mixed with ALL versions of clear Cutek oils in order to maintain the natural timber colour character, delay silvering, and retain the "freshly oiled look" for longer. Colourtoned Cutek oils can still look like a clear finish on the timber, depending on the colourtone selected.
  • When selecting from the range of colourtones allow for the timber colour to naturally lighten during the first three to eight months after application, as natural weathering and leaching occurs. Colour will last longer on rusticated, or band sawn timbers, and may be maximised by including the colourtone in all subsequent applications of Cutek oil.
  • If colourtoned Cutek has faded over time, wash timbers with Cutek QuickClean and apply a single coat of colourtoned Cutek CD50, Cutek Extreme or Cutek LowVOC to restore the original look of the protected timber.
  • Please note that the natural colour of timbers can vary significantly.

Why would I choose Cutek Extreme for my project?

If your wood is in a challenging environment such as the tropics, or you are trying to coat engineered timbers such as thermally modified wood or engineered bamboo, then, Cutek Extreme is the only suitable coating to use in the Cutek range. Cutek Extreme will provide all the protection benefits of Cutek CD50, but will resist the greying effects of sun for longer..

Cutek Extreme is simple to apply, easy to maintain, and cost effective. See the How to Use Cutek Extreme with Timber or How to use Cutek Extreme with Bamboo fact sheets for or more information.

Use Cutek Extreme to protect:
weatherboards, shingles, windows, doors, plywood, log buildings, beams, outdoor furniture, deckings, fascia boards, shutters, garage doors, joinery, spa pools, fences, posts... in fact virtually anything made of wood in addition to many engineered wood products.

ADVANCED Timber and Engineered Wood Protection

Cutek Extreme is a unique wood protection oil which keeps wood and engineered timber looking great for many years. It comes as a clear oil, with a choice of 10 colourtones which can be added to enhance the natural look of your project. Cutek Extreme is formulated to minimise warping and cupping and splitting, which means your exterior project lasts years longer. Clear Extreme fades over time, but retains the natural wood colour months longer than clear Cutek CD50, minimising maintenance requirements for timber. With a colourtone, the added UV protection keeps the natural colour for much longer.

Cutek Extreme is NOT suitable for use on acetylated wood.

Before you decide to use Cutek Extreme, click on the product selector at the top of the page to see if your project needs any pretreatment before applying Cutek Extreme.
