FEATURES OF CUTEK® MOULD CLEANER

It is important for the user to determine the suitability of the CUTEK® Mould Cleaner for its intended application. ALWAYS test product on a small test area prior to applying to any large sections. As the species and condition of timber can vary significantly, testing will enable you to accurately estimate the dilution, time and volume of CUTEK® Mould Cleaner required to complete your project.

Safety and precautions:

Before you begin to Prepare and Protect your timber, note the hazards and precautions and ensure that you have obtained and know how to use the correct safety equipment as detailed in the Safety Data Sheet.

When using CUTEK® Mould Cleaner, all adjacent surfaces and vegetation must be adequately protected. It is also important to be aware of the potential for wind drift into areas with cars or pedestrian traffic when rinsing. Water flush all equipment, vegetation, paths, concrete, asphalt and other adjacent surfaces before and after contact.

Coverage:

Spreading rate is approximately 1 Litre of CUTEK® Mould Cleaner per 5-8m2 of surface area to be restored.

Before application, ensure excess dirt and contaminants are removed. Add 300g of CUTEK® Mould Cleaner in 10L of water; thoroughly stir contents until the powder is dissolved. Note: Warm water will dissolve the powder better.

Application:

Using a garden sprayer or soft bristle broom, saturate the timber with the solution.

Using a stiff bristle broom, thoroughly scrub the area in the direction of the grain.

Allow the solution to sit on the timber for at least 15 minutes before removal. Do not let the solution dry on the timber; agitate and apply more solution.

Note. Once CUTEK® Mould Cleaner has been dissolved, it must be used within 1 hour after mixing.

Removal:

After 15 minutes, CUTEK® Mould Cleaner can be removed using a high-pressure washer set to approximately 50 bar (750 psi) with a fan jet pattern. Alternatively, a high-pressure nozzle on a garden hose with sufficient water pressure and a scrubbing brush may be effective. Clean from the highest point and work down methodically using long even strokes in the direction of the grain. CAUTION must be used when cleaning soft timber. Reduce the pressure or adjust distance from the substrate to avoid damaging the sapwood. It is important to adjust your cleaning process to avoid damage to the wood fibre. DO NOT use “turbojets” on timber.

Using a broom, scrub the surface of the timber to remove surface contaminants and wash off using a high-pressure nozzle attached to a garden hose. If the surface mould or stains have not been removed sufficiently, try scrubbing and rinsing again. If the stains have not been sufficiently removed, reapplication of CUTEK® Mould Cleaner might be required. If there is residual staining, CUTEK® Restore or CUTEK® Quickclean may be the suitable product.

PROTECT WITH CUTEK®

Following the cleaning of your timber with CUTEK® Mould Cleaner, it is
important to complete the restoration process by protecting your timber
with a CUTEK® exterior timber oil.

Designed for and proven to work in the harshest of Australian environments, CUTEK® exterior timber oils penetrate and diffuse deeply into the wood core to protect against liquid and gas phase moisture and extend service life:

CUTEK® Extreme CD50

  • High performance penetrating oil-based wood stabiliser with a unique self healing effect that highlights the natural beauty of wood and controls moisture to improve dimensional stability and minimise cupping, warping and splitting.

CUTEK® Wood Preservative

  • Oil-based wood stabiliser used for the pre-treatment and remedial treatment of exterior wood in industrial and domestic situation. CUTEK® Wood Preservative coated wood resists damage caused by fungal decay, mould, termites and controls moisture to improve dimensional stability and minimise cupping, warping and splitting.

Maintenance with CUTEK® exterior timber oils is simple, easy and cost effective. Simply clean and recoat – no need to sand or strip.

Not protecting your timber with CUTEK® oils after cleaning will result in water damage and a faster weathering/greying process when exposed to the weather.

  • How long can I store CUTEK® Restore for?

CUTEK® Restore can be stored for many years after initial use. To store correctly, store in a cool, dry area out of direct sunlight; lid must be airtight. Keep from freezing.

  • There are plenty of wood cleaners on the market, what makes CUTEK® Restore different?

CUTEK® Restore is a commercial strength restoration agent with a thirty-year pedigree designed by professionals for professionals that works quickly to remove heavy discolouration, greying, iron stains, water stains etc from all species of wood while brightening the natural grain.  CUTEK® Restore resists drying out on a hot day like most DIY cleaners. It keeps working with a deep cleaning action when others stop.

  • What steps should I follow when removing an existing coating?

CUTEK® oils must be applied to bare, clean and dry wood. This allows the CUTEK® oil to freely penetrate/diffuse into your timber. Wood previously coated with a film forming product such as stains, linseed oil, paint, polyurethane, water-based oils, etc. can inhibit this penetration/diffusion and must be removed:

    1. Remove previous coating using CUTEK® Wood Stripper. It is safe and user-friendly and is suitable to remove multiple layers of most commonly used wood coatings.
    2. Restore the colour and enhance the grain with CUTEK® Restore. CUTEK® Restore will bring weathered and stained timber back to life.

After removing the previous coating, it is important to protect your exteior timber with either CUTEK® Extreme CD50 or CUTEK® Wood Preservative to repel and displace moisture, and extend service life.

  • Can I use CUTEK®exterior products on outdoor timber furniture?

Yes. The CUTEK® system is designed to highlight and protect the natural beauty of all timber applications. Our range of Step 1: Prepare products will clean and enhance the timber for application of our Step 2: Protect (Exterior) products that powerfully protect the timber. Adding a CUTEK® Colourtone will help maintain the natural colour of your timber or alter its appearance.

  • Can I apply CUTEK® on new timber immediately without weathering?

Yes. Unlike most coatings, it is not necessary to wait for your timber to ‘weather’ before applying CUTEK® to new wood. In fact, we recommend the first coat goes on as soon as possible to protect the wood during the construction phase.

The reason why many traditional timber coatings require new wood to be weathered is that tannins and other extractives and/or mill glaze present in unweathered timber may interfere with the adhesion and performance of subsequently applied coatings.   This is not a problem with CUTEK® timber oils which may be applied to timber the moment it arrives on site.
